Birthday party on a boat in Lisbon: how to organise it

A birthday is excuse enough to break the routine — and few things make as much of a mark as a birthday on a boat: blowing out the candles aboard a catamaran on the Tagus river, with Lisbon drifting past all around. No neighbours complaining, no reserved table in a crowded restaurant: the boat is yours alone.

How many people can you bring on board?

The Bali 5.4 “Lusitana” catamaran comfortably welcomes up to 37 guests, with sun, shade and an indoor lounge. It works for a group of friends, the whole family or a more intimate party — the space adapts.

Food and drink: from the toast to dinner

You choose the level: from a sparkling-wine toast with petiscos to a full menu on board. The most requested options for birthdays:

• A board of cheeses, cured meats and Portuguese petiscos
• Chef’s food on board — seafood, grilled dishes or signature menus
• Open bar, sangria and cocktails
• Birthday cake (we arrange it for you, just say the word)

The best time for the party

For an afternoon/evening party, the end of the day is unbeatable: you board 60 to 90 minutes before sunset, catch the golden hour and raise your toast as the sky turns orange. In summer, that’s around 9pm; in winter, around 6pm.

How much it costs

It’s a private charter (you rent the whole boat, not per person), from around €1,100 per group, depending on the duration and the catering extras. The more guests, the lower the cost per person — so it pays to bring the group together.

Frequently asked questions

Can I bring my own birthday cake? You can bring your own or we’ll arrange it for you — just let us know. We keep the cake until toast time so the candle moment comes out perfectly.

Can I decorate the boat for the party? Yes. Simple decoration (balloons, banners, messages) is welcome; arrange it with us in advance so we can set everything up before boarding at Doca de Alcântara (Gate 3).

Can we have a barbecue on board for the birthday? You can. We offer a barbecue on board option, ideal for afternoon parties with a swim in the Tagus. It’s one of the most requested extras for groups.

Is there a minimum age or is it adults only? There’s no minimum age — we welcome families with children and adults-only parties. We adapt the drinks, food and route to the type of group.
