What You See on a Boat Trip on the Tejo: A Guide to Lisbon's Monuments

Equipa Lusitana Boat · June 7, 2026

On a boat trip on the Tejo you see Lisbon’s main riverside monuments from the water: the Torre de Belém, the Padrão dos Descobrimentos, the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos (from the shore), the Ponte 25 de Abril, the Cristo Rei and the Praça do Comércio. It’s the most complete way to see the riverfront in a single trip.

From the centre to Belém: what you’ll see

Praça do Comércio and Cais das Colunas

The heart of Lisbon facing the river. Seen from the water, the square opens up to its full width, with the Arco da Rua Augusta in the background.

Ponte 25 de Abril

The “sister” of San Francisco’s Golden Gate. Passing beneath its 2.3 km is one of the highlights of the trip.

Cristo Rei

On the south bank, in Almada, with open arms over the river — better framed from the Tejo than from land.

Padrão dos Descobrimentos

The stone caravel honouring the Portuguese navigators, right on the riverside in Belém.

Torre de Belém

Lisbon’s iconic landmark, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, built to defend the entrance to the Tejo. Seen from the river, you understand why.

How long does it take?

A typical trip along the riverfront takes 2 to 4 hours, depending on how far you go and the pace. Our trips are private charters and adapt the route to your experience and the river conditions.

Which side of the boat is best for photos?

Since the route is a round trip, you end up seeing the monuments from both sides. Even so, heading towards Belém, the Lisbon bank is on the starboard side (right).
